Just like yesterday use to be tomorrow.....
New years eve, a time to look both forwards and backwards. will my 2008 overall was very good, wife and my first full year together in New Zealand, our 2nd Christmas (which was better than the 1st!) Wife getting her permit to stay in NZ and lots of other things too! it was a year of being very happy and lots of love, guess you really can't ask for more than that! the down sides were few and far between really and it was stuff out of our control, things like the car breaking down.
Looking forward to 2009:
1) have a great year with the wife
2) lose 25+ kg that I found in 2008!
3) visit the in-laws in the Philippines
4) start a family (maybe)
5) make good friends and keep old good friends too
6) get more involved in the Filipino group here
7) anything else I've forgotten!
On the weight front, today's weight 129.25, only a small lost, but better than none! I'd like to be down to about 110 -105kg by end of August, if I can stick to it, I should be able to do it easy I HOPE!

To hot
Today was just way to hot, it was only 21 deg C but I get to stand next to the boiler on the steam engine all day which just makes it uncomfortable to say the lest! but it's all part of the job and I DO love the job, but just like all jobs it has it's good and bad points.... like slowing cooking in summer ;)
I guess one of the worst jobs I've done is cleaning out the smoke box at the end of the boiler so the boiler inspector can have a good look at it and we also took out the steam pipe to weld new ends on them. When you look at the photo all
you see is a rusty looking place, BUT before I cleaned it out it was just BLACK with fine soot and ash, anyway it is a very good feeling when after all the work on it over a month or two it's finished and has come alive again.
Alive you say? YES it's the only thing that comes close to describing how it is.... how the engine seems to breath and live, how you have to feed and water it or it dies again, really the only major differences that a steam engine can die and then be made to live again and every other thing is dead for ever when it dies.
Today's weight 129.30kg, that's 1.25kg lost in 24 hours, so it make 2.80kg in 48 hours, I guess some of it is water but then I have also been good on the diet so far this week!

Not much
Not much to report that is, work today was good, fixed a small problem on one of the engines and then re-steamed it and give it to the road crew to use on the trains today, got the other engine of them and put that away. Did a few other small jobs and ended up going home about 2:30pm as I had a very bad stomach which was making life a bit "interesting".
Other then that I've had a very easy day, weight this morning was 130.30Kg, that's 1.55kg lost in 24 hours, I think it's mostly water....

Christmas is OVER!
Well Christmas is over for another year! Wife and I had a good Christmas, we went to my Mum & dad's place on the other side of the island, from my town to there city is only 100km in a straight line but because of a range of mountains the road takes 250km to get between the two places, in one place the road does a U turn and you end up heading back towards your starting point for a time. The road is a LOT better then it us to be, not that long ago it was a nightmare to drive with lots of hairpin bends and one lane sections, now it's only got a few one lane bridges left and the worst part has been widened to two lanes. Anyway takes about 3 hours for the drive.
Christmas day was nice and easy, Church in the morning to keep wife happy, I found it OK, I'm not much of one for church but I've been far more times this year with wife then anytime in my life. After that back to mum & dad's and open the gifts, got some good stuff this year and Wife's gifts were great! We got ourselves a playstation 2 and a few games, it's a great time waster but fun!
As always the food and stuff was very good and as always I ate way to much again! the weight has gone up badly.... No make that VERY badly! it was 131.85kg this morning :( I can't blame anybody but myself :( anyway I have given me a good kick up the backside and will try to be very good starting from today!

The eve of christmas eve...
The silly season is just about over! Only another 2 days of it and then I'm safe till next year! it's not that I hate Christmas it's more that I hate all the silly things that people do....
It's things like the little old lady that drives her car 4 times a year, 3 of those in the few days before Christmas, drives down the road at a 20km/h and does not care that the traffic is backed up behind her for 3 blocks or the Mum with the kids out of control in a shop, she's happy because the kids are leaving her alone, everybody else in the shop would love to kill the kids.... also the fact the people go over board and buy way to many gifts and then spend months paying for them.....
I think people get wrapped up in the "GIVING" and miss the point of Christmas (while the point for me...) it's BEING with family and friends, taking time out of everyday life and just enjoying time with the ones you love ( & hopefully love you back!)
Having said that I think both the Wife and I have spent to much money on gifts, it's Ok we paid cash for most of them, it's been interesting this year to see how my Wife sees Christmas, last year she was still very shy to my family and had only been in NZ for a few months, this year she's full on and showing me how Filipino's do Christmas, must say it's much more than I'm use too! For me Christmas was a few cheap things that people could hopefully use and time with the family, all up maybe $50, this year in line with Filipino tradition we have got a large number of gifts for all the family, it's making Wife happy which makes me happy! also with all those gifts and sure the rest of the family should be happy too! ;)
Weight 127.55kg, very small gain, worst to come in the next few days! good point is I will not have the scales with me, so I'll not be able to check the damage!
Have a Merry Christmas and all the best for the new year people!

Just another post....
Just a short post about life in the last few days....
Jeff
Weight is down to 127.50kg which is good, but I need to be very careful over Christmas to not do to much damage to my weight e.g. watch what I eat and DON'T eat to much!
Work is ticking along, it's picking up fast and looks like a good summer season, most likely because petrol is a lot cheaper than this time last year.
Iligan (Wife's home town in the Philippines)
has had a couple of more bombs found, happily found before they went off so no damage or anything else, there has also been a couple of false alarms, but that's understandable in the current climate in Iligan, all I hope that the madness is stopped soon and nobody else is hurt and the PNP (Philippine National Police) catch the mad men/women behind the bombs.

The week that was...
Well what a week! But it's now over and hopefully
I don't have another one like that for some time! The car has now been fixed, total cost $1190, it's a bit better than the $1300 quoted, but Wife & I still had to hit our savings account, but what could we do? we need the car so I can get to work easy, It's only 15km and on a good day I can bicycle it in about 35 minutes, which I did 2 times this week, BUT on a bad day with a head wind it can take about 1 hour, which I also had this week.
Yesterday the Wife decided to test my new first aid skills by choking.... Anyway I got her up, bent over a bit and then 5 hard hits on her back between her shoulder balds, the last hit she took in a big breath of air and stopped choking, we don't know what it was because we had finished eating about 10 minutes before. I'm just happy that Wife is OK and I didn't have to do "chest thrust" or worse CPR!

The weight has been all over the place this week, got down to 126.4kg but now I'm back up to 128.40kg, I think (know) it's due to a few things like work Christmas party, stress over the car, not walking because of the bad weather (heavy rain) for the last couple of days. I should say "right get back into it" but I'm feeling as if I have given up till after boxing day (26th Dec) I don't know, All I know is that I should try very hard to get back on track, but the "will power" is missing just now. Interesting thing was I felt so GOOD after riding the bike to work and back for 2 days, guess that's the answer.... get out and do more, just have to do it and that can be hard to do!
My Wife's home city in the Philippines was hit with 2 bombs in shops this week, the bombs killed 3 and injured 45. The Wife's family is safe which is good to know, but I can not for the life of me see how bombing people is a good way to get them to join with you? Iligan city is part of the area in the southern Philippines that the MILF (Moro Islamic Liberation Front) want control over, The area happens to be rich in things like gold etc, anyway the MILF is using tactics like bombing shops to make the people of Iligan join with them (Iligan is about 95% Christian) I can not see the good people of Iligan joining the MILF because of a few bombs, also I can't help feel the MILF is more interested in the gold and other riches in the ground than the welfare of anybody apart from them self's.
Anyway on a happyer note, we have finished our Christmas shopping, I do think just maybe we went a "little" overbroad! never mind it should be a good one this year just for one little fact.... I'm NOT working boxing day! I don't have to be at work at 7am to lite up the steam engine after it's been sitting a day without a fire in it, samebody else gets to do it this year!
Now if you can find it on the net or the shop I would suggest that you have a listen to "Matthew West - This ordinary life" great song and the rest of his album "Sellout" is good to! it's Chirstian pop, but it's not over the top and it's just plain good!

life without a car....
I hate not having a car, today more so because it was raining and it looks like I'll be without a car for at lest the rest of the week :(
No the good side, I have biked home from work today, took me 35 minutes of pedaling to do it, guess that's a good time because it's only 20 minutes longer than the car travel time and it's better for me, also walked from home to wife's work and back after meeting her there, so that was another 30 minutes walk. Should all be good for the weight tomorrow I hope!
Today's weight was 127.40 kg not good but after the weekend I had I'm not surprised!

A.W.O.L
AWOL ? What's that I hear you asking....
Absent With Out Leave
It's a army thing, but it sums up my weekend in a way, Friday Wife and I were busying with Christmas shopping and getting ready to go to a Christmas party, the party was Saturday night. It was also in another town about 1 hour drive north of our town, we had to take food and a present, so as I said Friday was racing around getting the present and cooking the food, Saturday we hit the road about 12 noon, we arrived at the other town around 1:15pm checked into the motel we had booked and then went to the party site to see if we could help set up, but it was all done by the time we got there.
So back to the hotel, we made use of the extra time we had, we tried out the spa bath! ;) very relaxing it was! Then dressed up in my case and glamoured up in the wife's case, boy did she look GREAT! I was secretly smiling away to myself thinking how lucky I am to have a great looking wife, wife is also fun and very smart, I couldn't wish for or want more in my wife then I have! out to the party site and we had fun and caught up with friends, I got up and danced a little, but I'm not much of a dancer and also my shoes were giving me blisters on my heals, wife had a ball dancing with her friends.
Next day we did a road trip, took the LONG way home, did a extra 250km's we didn't need to, but we had fun and saw same more of this great county along the way, we went to a place that both of us had never been to before. The only down side was the power steering in the car failed making it very very hard to steer, the good news was it was only 500 meters from home, could have happened anytime in the day and could have been over 300km from home, so I guess we were really lucky that it failed so close to home!
Anyhow I have taken it in to a repair shop today and I already have a quote for the repair... $1300! FAR OUT! I mean the car only cost me $4000 3 years ago, so it's over 1/4 the cost of the car! but I need the car to get to work because there is no public transport at all..... never mind it's life I guess, you win some, you lose some....
Specking of which.... the weight isn't good, 3 days of the diet and not much in the way of walking has put the weight up to 127.15kg :( it's bad, but not as bad as I was thinking it would be!

Hi All,
Will I had a plan of what I was going to write about in today's post, but right now I have NO IDEA what it was! :)
Anyway.....
Work was good, fixed a few small problems on the loco that is have it's yearly boiler check, re steamed it and had fixed all 3 problems only thing was it ended up with another new problem, it's a small problem and very easy to fix, only thing is you have to empty the boiler to do it!
Had a walk after work, not much only about 40 minutes, but over all a good day.
Weight 126.05 kg.... YES that's a NEW low for me!

A good day...
Hi All,
Well today was a good day at work, a bit hot, but good, I was driving the train today but in between I was also steaming up the other engine for the first time after it's boiler safety check. All went not to bad, but I was busy all day because of it!
I have ended up doing a HUGE amount of walking today, went for a 30 minute walk after dropping Wife off at work and then I must have spent half my day at work walking around as I worked on the train and the 2nd engine And to top it all off.... I got home from work and Wife decided that we were going for a walk!
So to cut a long story short, we walked down to the local discount shop and got some Christmas cards and wrapping paper then we called into the supermarket and got a "few" items! all up another 45 minutes of walking.
Today's weight 126.15kg also most back down to last weeks record low!

First Aid Pt 2
Hi All,
Well today was the 2nd part of the First aid course, I'm happy to say that I passed! so I'm good for another 2 years now. must say that the assessment at the end was a bit hard on the nerves... I lucked out in that I got a easy-ish scenario to deal with. At first looking at it, it looked like a simple fall, but when you got into it and did all the assessment of the "victim" I found it was a stoke, so you end up treating both the stoke and the fall injury's until the "real" help arrived.
Anyway doing the first aid course for the last 2 days has been something different at work, I just hope I NEVER have to use the skill at work or home.... or ANYWHERE!
Today's weight 126.55kg, up a bit, but I had drunk LOTS of water yesterday, so I'm guessing that's why it was up a little.

First Aid
Hi All,
Today I was doing a first aid course at work, it's 2 days, today was day 1. We covered a lot of stuff today, the major one was CPR and a bit on cut and wounds. more tomorrow. Been very interesting and very helpful, I was interested to find out I did indeed remember a lot from my last course which was about 7 years ago. I REALLY hope and pray that I never ever have to use any of the first aid skills I have, but I guess it's better to have the skills and not need them then not have the skill and need them!
Today's weight a good low 126.10kg!
That's all for now folks ;)

Sunday again...
Hi All,
Well it was back to work for the week today, not a bad day at all, maybe a bit warm standing next to the boiler in the railway engine all day, but hey that's part of the job! it was a good days work too, a bit of track work in between trains, followed by more work on getting the 2nd engine ready to steam after it's yearly boiler check, all that and driving the normal passenger trains too!
As for the weight, both good and bad...
I have dropped back down to 126.85kg which is good, but it's bad as it's not down bellow my 126.40 from earlier in the week :( never mind I'll work hard on it again! today wasn't too bad, lots of hard work at work, also a good 30 minute walk this morning will help me out. Tomorrow I have to be very careful as all I'm doing tomorrow is class room work, yep, I have a first aid course to attend for the next two days...

what happened to yesterday?
I missed a day in the blog, I somehow forgot about yesterday....
Anyway the weight yesterday was 126.40kg which is good....
BUT....
Today it was 127.20kg, which is very very bad! yesterday was one of "those" days were my eating was out of control again :( there was some good in the day however wife and I went for a good walk of about 1 hour and it was the most perfect day for walking, warm but not hot, blue sky etc
Today I've still been in the over eating mode, but most of it has been not to bad, eg fish with rice and veg, only bad thing today was some home made macaroni & cheese, must say it was GOOD, way better than that stuff you buy in a box and just add mike to the sauce!
Wife & I went for a walk this afternoon along part of the local beach, it was great! the beach had nobody on it apart from us and it was fine hot weather.... how hot? will put it this way... I got my first sun burn of the year in less than 20 minutes! it's not bad, just a bit of a stinging feeling around the lower bit of my neck.
Jeff
Anyway the weight yesterday was 126.40kg which is good....

End of the week
Hi All,
Yep today's my Friday, no work tomorrow! :)
It's been a hard week's work, doing railway track work is hard on the body, but at the same time it's rewarding.... to travel over the bit of the track that you have worked on and feel the difference in the ride is great!
Today's weight 126.55kg, a small amount down which is good!

Christmas madness already!
Hi All,
Well we are only 3 days into December and already the shops are starting to go mad with people doing their shopping! BAH-HUMBUG! Ok, so I'm not that much of a fan of Christmas, it's not Christmas it's self that I don't like, it's going over broad on food and gift's. I mean do we really have to spend HUGE amounts of money on gifts for everybody we know? and eat till we are uncomfortably full?
I much more like to spend Christmas with my family and have a smallish meal of Christmas food (e.g. turkey, ham etc) and have good gifts that will be:
A: Useful
B: NOT expensive
Having said that the wife and I have spent $300 so far on presents to ours self's! but it is something we both like and it well get used. The rest of the family is getting things that cost no more than $5, one reason for that is my Mum has laid down a rule this year that nobody in the family is to spend more than $5 on any gift, I can live with that, because I feel that Christmas is far more about spending time with loved ones then trying to out do each other with costly gifts.
Anyway I have this simple little rule about Christmas..... It's not Christmas until I hear "Snoopy's Christmas" on a local radio station, last year I made it till 24th Dec before I heard it, this year I heard it yesterday (2nd Dec) I have only one thing to say about that....
BAH-HUMBUG!
It's just WAY to early in December to be hearing that on the radio! anyway I guess I'm already in the "I hate Christmas" mode and I'll stay there into the 23rd or 24th!
Today's weight 126.75kg a very small gain which I can live with, hopeful back to going down tomorrow!
Jeff
P.S I don't really hate Christmas, just the madness leading up to it!

Tuesday again
Hi All,
Yep it's Tuesday, mid week for me, I did more track work at work today and I'd love to kill that Wacker we use! It's got a 2 stoke motor and when it runs good it's very good, but sometimes it goes crazy for no reason, today was one of them! I had it running all afternoon till I run it out of petrol, Ok, full it back up and back to using it? NO WAY! it would start and run for about 30 seconds..... then die again. I put up with this for about 30 minutes as I tried to figure out what was wrong, then after I started it for about the 10,000th time it just carried on running, I have no idea what was wrong with it and no idea way it came right, but hey it goes and that's the mian thing!
Today's weight is 126.70 Kg! WOW that's coming scream down! must be all the hard work on the track that is starting to pay off, hope I can keep it up!

life, what is it?
Hi All,
What is life? is it the stuff that happens to us as we try to live and plan our life? looking back over my 40 years on earth so far has been interesting, what I'm doing for a job and what I had planned on doing are so far apart it's not even on the same planet! but having said that I'm not complaining because my job is so GOOD I do something that I love and I'm 1 of only a hand full of people doing it and being paid to do it!
Mind you my life isn't perfect.... if it was I'd be thin and rich, both of which I'm working on ;) I would say I've made my share of mistakes along the way, some bad, some that turned out good, but you have to make mistakes or how do you learn? and as the old saying goes.... if it does not kill you it makes you stronger! (maybe that should be smarter) I've taken some risks in life, most of them small because I'm a "safe" person, but I've also taken the odd huge risk, I'm not sure which you would put "internet dating" under, small or large, But for me and wife it has been a very rewarding risk and we are now very happy and very much in love together.
Guess what I'm trying to say is this....
In life you WELL make mistakes, you WELL take risks.....
Some well be bad, some well come out good....
But above all.......
LIFE is LIFE and it happens no matter what your plans for it are.
Anyway today's weight 127.25kg, so I hop I now have it going back down :)

My Sunday (which is Saturday)
Hi All,
Well it's my Sunday today, it's Saturday for everybody else, but I start my work week on Sunday. Wife and myself went to town today, yes we got a Playstation 2, we also got a 2nd hand controller, ABBA singstar bundle (mic's & music) and a game for me, total $298! We researched the best prices we could get the stuff for and then went to the local Noel Leemings shop and asked if they could much those prices.... they DID! we saved about $40 all up & got 11 Flybuys points too!
It's the 2nd time that Noel Leemings has match a competitors price, first time we got a new still camera, Noel leeming price $599, competitors price $290, yep that's right Noel leeming dropped their price $300 to make the sale! you just can not complain about service like that at all, which is why we went back today to buy the Playstation 2. We also made sure we used the same sales lady as her service and salesmanship are 1st class.
What else today? we braved the local discount shop on a Saturday morning, it was mad, but you just know it's not that bad yet as it's still over 3 weeks till Christmas. We then spent the best part of 4 hours spring cleaning the flat, now looks much better then before!
Today's weight was another shocker, but only because it went down about .6 of a Kg!
It's now 127.65kg! after all that over eating yesterday I was sure it was going to go the other way!

End of the working week
Hi All,
Well it's the end of my week today, means a lay in bed tomorrow and then a bit of a lazy day, Saturday the wife and I will have to do all our normal stuff like cleaning the house and doing washing before returning to work on Sunday. Today at work was good, but the work was hot, heavy and just plain hard on the body, which means it SHOULD be good for the body and the weight!
Today's weight was 128.10, better, but not good!
Wife and myself have just been watching a TV documentary called "half ton hospital" it was about people that have major problem in controlling their weight some of them were up around 50 stone! It started us talking about my weight and how my wife fears for me and whats me to lose weight and be healthy for her and any kids we may have.... I what that too, but HOW do I do it?
my weight has been a long term problem for me, how long? about 34 years out of the 40 I have lived so far! as I have got older I have got bigger.... as I have said in a older post, 3 years ago I got off my back side and got to the gym and got help with my eating, because of that I went from 148kg to 101kg, but then because of major life changes I have let it slip and bit by bit I have put 27kg back on. I KNOW that it's not good and has started to have an affect on my health and I REALLY what to lose the weight again but for now my will power isn't up to it....
I NEED somebody to stand beside me, help me and encourage me to do the right things, Wife does, but sometimes when I need it the most she isn't there but at work, I also know that in the very end the ONLY one that can help me is ME! I know that it's wrong to come home from work and have a snack before tea, I know at work I SHOULD NOT have that chocolate biscuit etc
In the end it comes down to one little fact.....
I AM DOING IT TO MYSELF AND ONLY I CAN STOP IT!

That tomorrow....
Hi All,
Well today is yesterdays tomorrow.... and the weight this morning was 128.20kg, not as bad as yesterday which is good! means I dropped 0.7kg in 24 hours! I had a good day, went for a power walk after dropping the wife at work at 7am, I had a half hour that I managed to do the walk in before I had to come home and get ready to go to my work for the day.
My work was good today, I was using the wacker to pack up the railway track sleepers, so using that wacker in it's self is a good workout! guess it should help the weight tomorrow, that and the diet is about the best it's been all week!
Specking of the wife, I seem to feel in love with her more every day! there isn't a day goes past without me thinking how lucky we are to be together and how lucky I am that I have her and that she loves me so much! when I look back at all the things that could have gone wrong in the 2 years that we dated long distance, I'm amazed that we got through it all...
And you know what? from the day I frist held her in my arms and looked into her beautiful eyes, I could not have wished for or found a more perfect love!

A shocking day.....
Hi All,
Well today I got out of bed and onto the scales like I normally do, only to find out I had put on 1.3kg in a day? (today's weight 128.95) I mean HOW do you put on 1.3kg in a day? Ok my eating wasn't 100% good yesterday, but still should not have been that much! there are 2 reasons I can come up with for the huge gain....
1) I did drink lots of water yesterday...
2) the cheap scales I have are playing up...
I think maybe it's reason number 1 as I checked my weight after I got home from work e.g. after eating breakfast, lunch and drinking water etc over the course of the day, do you what? the scales came up with 128.55kg, every other time I have check the weight at the end of the day, there has been about .5 to 1kg more weight at the time which is understandable.
So I'm shocked at my weight today, but hopping it was because of drinking heaps of water the day before, guess we well all find out tomorrow!

And today was WET!
Hi All,
Will today I was rained on from 8:30am to 4pm with the only time I wasn't in the the rain was when I was trying to get the wacker working again! The wacker is a 2 stoke powered jack hammer, we use it at work with a spade fitting to push stone under the railway sleepers (sleepers are the large bits of wood on which the rails are fitted) anyway it was running fine and then just stopped...
We spent about 1 hour on it and got it going again, not sure how but it did go! Had lunch then went to use the wacker again, wouldn't start! after myself and another stuff member had it in bit and back together a 2nd time it still wouldn't start, we had run out of ideas and then we decieded to change the sparkplug, new plug and the wacker started first go!
We still don't know why... the old plug was working good and had spark, so did the new, but something must have been wrong with that old plug? I guess it took us about 2 to 3 hours to do that, but it did keep me out of the rain for that long! and I still got must I the work done that I was meant to do today. I hope it dosn't rain tomorrow....
Today weight is 127.65kg (280.83) a small loss, but a loss all the same!

Another day another $
Hi All,
Not much to say today, back at work for the week, first day that I have driven the train at work for over a week, missed it and had a blast today just because I was back driving. We had our normal share of good tourist and idiot tourists at work today, but like all things in life you have to take the good with the bad ;) I sometimes wonder how much people research a place/country before traveling to it. Going by some of the questions we answer every day, not much!
Today's weight 127.75kg (281.05 lbs) yet another small gain and there starting to add up again :(
Mind you the next 2 weeks at work are track work weeks (repairing the railway tracks) so that is heavy hard work, so that should knock off a few kg's.....

Lazy Saturday....
Hi All,
Today was a lazy day, up late and packed the wife off to work, she was doing a extra 5 hours today because her work is short staffed, I had plans to full in the time.... I was planning on going up the valley and taking photos of trains, eating fish & chips well sitting in the sun waiting for the train(s) to pass...... only one problem.... it RAINED ALL DAY :( needless to say I didn't do that! instead I run the wife to work in the car, then spent 1 hour in town looking for Lonely planet books on Hong Kong.
I did find two different ones, a full version and a pocket size one, but the price put me off them, I ended up going to the public library and found a 2 year old pocket size one, I got it out and it's been good, has fulled in a few gaps so far!
The wife has just finished cutting my hair, say's I look much better now! LOL :)
Today fight with the weight wasn't a good one, I have eaten to much today, but the fish & chips was the worse bit! I have dig out my dumb bells set from last year and have started trying to use them again, so that may help...
I did find this morning that my scales I use for checking my weight are a bit "funny" I weighed myself this morning when I got up (127.55kg) then for some reason I weighed myself again about 30 minutes later, I got 127.80kg this time, so I had a play, I tried a couple of more times and got readings between 127.10kg & 127.90kg, some of it seemed to be the way I was standing e.g. bent over a little or upright and some seemed to be for no reason. For that reason I will check my weight 3 time and take the middle reading from now on! and before you say it was because of my clothing, it was not! I had the EVERYTHING the same in all cases today.
And on that note, today's weight will be..... 127.55kg (280.61 lbs) a gain again, but not a big one.

127.55kg (280.61 lbs) a gain again, but not a big one.

a one day work week...
Hi All,
Well I would love a one day work week all the time and because of the sore back this week that's what I have had! Today is Friday which is the start of my weekend, my work week normally being Sunday to Thursday. But unless I win LOTTO I'm still going to have to work 5 days a week for the mean time....
Today the wife and myself didn't get up to much, walked in to town and paid bills etc, took about 60 minutes the same amount of time it took me on Monday with the sore back, but this time we got a LOT more done! we also had about 1 hours walk this afternoon too.
Fridays are normally a bad day for my weight, I normally have had Friday's "off" the diet and would allow myself to eat anything I felt like, the only condition was I had to limit the amount. Problem was I wasn't (still not) any good at eating in moderation so I "over" eat, the weight I put on on a Friday would normally take the rest of the week to take off again.....
Do you see were I'm going wrong so far? ;)
So today being Friday I've had the day off the diet, BUT the difference today is I have been careful about not over eating. The wife and myself had KFC for lunch, the cost normally is about $20 and we eat it all, today we paid only $8.90 and was less than half the amount we use to get, the good news is I still felt full at the end of eating, it cost less and should have a less amount of impact on my weight.... also today I managed to stay away my pigging out on other stuff like crisps and biscuits etc. So I'm hopping with the walking today and the more careful eating that I don't do my normal jump up in weight tomorrow, watch this space.....
Todays weight before I forget is : 270.40kg ( 280.28 lbs) a small gain, but a gain all the same :(

A happy day
Yes a happy day, why? because I was back at work! I spent the day lapping in steam valves on one of the railway engines at work, normally it's a long slow boring job.... today I LOVED it! because I wasn't stack at home! Ok the back wasn't 100% and I can still only bend over as far as my knees. The other good thing is I made it all day without having to take pain killers, so much better!
Now that made life interesting this morning and also made me late to work on my first day back! it took me over 40 minutes this morning to put on my socks and my work boots, all because I could not reach my feet, I got there but it wasn't easy at all! Then I found there is nothing much more embarrassing then having to ask a co-worker to do up your boot lace, it's ever that for spend 30+ minutes trying to do it back up myself....
And before I forget, today's weight is: 127.30kg ( 280.06 lbs)

today's highlight is...
Walking to the mailbox at the end of the drive!
Not much I know, but I'm still here at home with the sore back, good news is I think I will be able to go back to work tomorrow. Most likely not doing my normal job because there is a lot of shoveling will bent over and the back isn't that good yet....
But I should be able to do something, most likely working on repairing one of the railway engines we have at my work. What ever I end up doing tomorrow HAS to be better then sitting here at home!
Mind you now that I can sit for longer (not the 2 minutes as before) I have spent a lot of time looking at websites about Hongkong and also the Philippines, why? Because the wife and myself will hopefully be traveling back to the Philippines next year via Hongkong. The plan is to have a layover in Hongkong of about 5 days before flying to Cebu in the Philippines.
I have found out a lot of information and found some good blogs and websites so now have a better understanding about Hongkong & the Philippines, can't wait to travel again! As I said in my first post, I spent 8 weeks in the Philippines last year and LOVED it, loved it so much that I MISS the country!
I have talked for many years about wanting to "travel" and I always come up with a reason not too.... no money, no time, to much risk..... etc etc etc, you know how it goes, Now that I have traveled and gotten over those what/if's and maybe's, I find I only have one thing left.... and that is I WANT TO TRAVEL MORE! I want to see what this world is like, but not so much the "normal" tourist spots, but more of the untraveled places.
Untraveled you say? places like Mindanao the southern most island in the Philippines, it's meant to be "unsafe" maybe the western side is but the mid/east side of the northern coast isn't and that's were I spent 6 weeks last year.... it was very different to what I'm use to and very few tourist, how few? I saw only about 10 others in 6 weeks! but I had a blast! the locals are friendly and welcome you. it's was great and I felt safer there than any other place I've been.
The only problem is the NZ government has Mindanao listed as a "extreme" risk for travelers, means it's almost impossible for me to get travel insurance, I don't know maybe the government needs to have a look and make it only the south of Mindanao as extreme risk, but I guess it's easier for them just to say "all" of Mindanao is....
As a interesting aside... I have just found out the travel insurance I was sold for my last trip didn't cover me will I was in Mindanao! when I got it I made a point of asking the travel agent if it did cover Mindanao and I was told "yes" Oh but it didn't! luckily I didn't need it!
Jeff
P.S almost forgot the weight today... it's 127.40 kg (280.28) being semi careful about what I'm eating as I'm not doing much to burn it off for now.

I want out!
Hi All,
Will I'm still at home with the sore back, the good news is it's getting better semi fast, but I am SO sick of being here! I want to get back to work, to get out and about and just live a bit. Soon I'm going to go and pick my wife up at her work, yesterday I did that and driving the car was SO painful..... today I'm hoping it's not so bad, lest today I'm not using pain killers, so I'll take that as a sign that I'm improving!
Even if I have a hard time getting into the car and it's painful to drive, I'm still going to pick the wife up for ONE reason.....
I WANT OUT OF THE HOUSE...... even if it's only for 10 minutes....
I have decided that each day I post on this blog I'll also post my weight, two reasons:
1) it will keep me honest
2) It will help me stay on track if I think somebody out there is watching me ;)
so on that note today's weight is:
128.00kg (281.6lbs)
Maybe someone out there will get a bit of help out of following this blog and my LONG ongoing battle with my weight, even if this blog helps 1 person (me!) than that is good!

I hope the world is ready for me!
Hi all,
Well I always said I'd NEVER blog but here I am.... it's amazing what a sore back and being bored can do for you ;)
This blog will be about "things" as in anything I feel fit to post about, it may go months between posts or maybe everyday, time will tell, but to give you a idea it will cover travel, railways, my life and anything else....
Now I know I'm over weight, I have been from the ago of 6, I'm now on the wrong side of 40 :( about 3 years ago I got off my backside and did something about it, I joined a gym, went to it 6 days a week, walked, did weights and I was eating much better, over 2 years I dropped from 148kg to 101kg, I was happy about that and my life was much better, also it was much easier to do most things.
15 months ago I spent 2 months in the Philippines getting to know my long time girl friend in person (that sounds bad!) anyway we married and we came back to my county (New Zealand) in the last 12 months together we have set up a home and got our live together working very will, only problem was my weight became something I didn't worry about anymore, which brings me to today......
Today as I sit here doing this blog my back is painfully sore, sore to the point of not being able to do anything! sitting ok for 2 minutes, standing the same, laying down, it ALL is painful! how did I get back here? I after I lost the weight I promised myself I would NEVER PUT IT BACK ON, but here I am with my weight back up at 129kg :(
The painful back has been a big wake up call to me this week, and I know now that I have to get back to the gym, and watching what I eat, just so I can enjoy life with my wife and hopeful have a family one day!
Anyway I hope you will enjoy my wandering around in life as much as I do! thanks for reading. and just to finish, here's a couple of You Tube video's I made of my time in the Philippines last year (yep, you tubing was one of those "other" things I was never going to do!)
